Drug and Alcohol Action team

 
The Greenwich Drug and Alcohol Action Team is a group of Council officers with strategic responsibility for the delivery of the Government's Drugs Strategy in Greenwich and for responding to local priorities for reducing the harmful impacts of drug and alcohol misuse.

The team works closely with a wide range of partner agencies and is ultimately responsible to the Greenwich Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership.

Responsibilities

The team's responsibilities include:

  • Commissioning services for adult drug treatment in line with the annual Adult Drug Treatment Plan
  • Tendering for services, contracting providers and the monitoring and review of contracted services
  • Planning and commissioning services specifically for young people, including drug education, diversionary activities, early intervention and drug treatment
  • Developing the Drug Intervention Programme, a Government initiative aimed at reducing drug related crime by ensuring that drug-using offenders are engaged and retained in treatment locally
  • Developing a local alcohol strategy and implementation plan for action
  • Gathering data and information to assist with planning and to keep partner agencies updated on policy development, changes in legislation, best practice and potential funding sources
  • Local implementation of the Government's 10-year strategy to tackle the misuse of drugs in the UK.
