Drug Interventions Programme (DIP)

The Drug Interventions Programme aims to help adult drug-misusing offenders out of crime and into treatment.

DIP clients are Greenwich residents who are arrested for trigger offences and test positive for Class A drugs. A trigger offence is an acquisitive crime like shoplifting or robbery that can be linked to funding a drug habit.

By law, people arrested for these offences must be tested for Class A drugs. If the result is positive, they must attend a Required Assessment for drug treatment.

Other clients are people who are leaving prison, and wish to continue treatment for Class A drug dependency issues. An offender can have restrictions placed on their bail from Magistrates Court to engage with the DIP team as an alternative to a custodial sentence.

DIP services include:

  • Specialist prescribing
  • Counselling
  • Gateway to residential rehabilitation
  • Gateway to in-patient detox
  • Support for families and partners
  • Housing advice and support
  • Childcare
