What to do if you are ill
If you or someone you know feels ill, there are a number of services you can turn to for help, both during and out of work hours.
Self help and what to do next
Using a self help guide can be the first step towards deciding what to do when you are ill.
Your pharmacist will be able to advise you about common illness and minor complaints
NHS Direct offers telephone and online support 24 hours a day
If your condition is more serious, you can contact GP or visit an NHS Walk-in centre
The links in the left menu will take you to more information on all of these services.
Emergencies only
Local hospitals are increasingly under strain from people visiting hospital with minor ailments. To allow doctors to concentrate on seriously ill patients, you should only go to casualty in an emergency or if you have been advised to attend by your pharmacist, NHS Direct or your GP.
