Care outside the home
Residential homes
A residential home provides accommodation and personal care for people who are not able to live independently.
Places are available within and outside of Greenwich so you can be close to relatives.
Who does the Council arrange residential care for?
The Council's Department for Adult and Older People's Services deal with requests for residential home places for Greenwich residents.
If you think that you need, or someone you know needs, a place in a residential home you should
contact one of our social care teams
.
To be granted a place in a residential home, you must meet our
eligibility criteria
. We will decide if you meet the eligibility criteria by carrying out a
care assessment
.
We can then prepare a full list of the homes that are available, depending on your specific circumstances and care needs.
We can help you to find
care homes for older people
, even if you aren't eligible for care services from the Council.
Services in residential homes
The staff members in a residential home will usually take care of the following things for you, or with you:
your meals
your laundry
your personal care.
If necessary, you can still access services from a district nurse, or emergency health services.
However, continuous nursing care is not available in a residential home.
Charges for residential care
You may need to pay toward the cost of your residential care.
See our leaflets on
charges for community care
for further information.
Heating costs and all other utility bills are included in the overall charge.
