Nursing homes

Nursing homes are similar to residential homes, except care and medical assistance is provided around the clock under the direction of a trained nurse.

Who can get nursing care services from the Council?

If you think that you need a place in a nursing home you should contact one of our social care teams.

To be granted a place in a nursing home, you must meet our eligibility criteria. We will decide if you meet the eligibility criteria by carrying out a care assessment.

The Department of Adults and Older People (Social Services) can then draft a full list of the services that are available, depending on your specific circumstances and care needs.

Places in nursing homes outside of Greenwich are also available.

We can help you to find care homes for older people, even if you aren't eligible for care services from the Council.

Paying for nursing care

You may have to pay some or all of the costs of your nursing care.  See our charges for community care page for further information.
