Do I have to pay for community care services?

This will depend on the type of service you receive. Services provided by the National Health Service, such as chiropody or hospital care, are free, but for other services you will have to pay something. Meals on wheels, for example has a fixed charge that everyone must pay.

On the other hand, some help at home services, day and respite care, and residential and nursing homes have charges that are scaled according to your income and savings. These charges are based on an assessment of your ability to pay.
