Arranging your own care
Direct payments
Direct payments are payments made by the Council to people who require community care services. These payments mean that you can arrange and purchase your own services, rather than have social service teams organise services on your behalf.
What direct payments can be used for
We can arrange direct payments for all the community care services that we would normally arrange or provide, including:
Personal care such as help with washing, dressing and eating meals
Practical help with shopping and cleaning
Short stays in residential homes
Daytime activities
Please bear in mind that opting for direct payments means you will be taking on additional
responsibilities
.
Qualifying for payments
To receive direct payments you will need to be assessed by a worker from one of our social services teams. Please see our
assessing your needs
section for information on contacting us for an assessment.
Further information
For more information, please contact our Direct Payments office using the contact informaton in the menu on the right.
