Together: Co-ordinating children's services
The Common Assessment Framework (CAF) is a new way of working which promotes early intervention where children and young people have additional needs.
CAF will allow practitioners to make an holistic assessment of a child's needs and strengths, and take account of the role of the child's parents, carers and environment.
Practitioners will then be better placed to agree with the child and family about what support is appropriate.
Better co-ordinated services
The CAF is about helping practitioners record and share assessments with other professionals.
This way of working will help better achieve co-ordinated service provision.
It means that children and young people who need care and extra services will not need to be repeatedly assessed by different practitioners.
The CAF will also bring a standard approach to assessing a child's needs and to deciding how those needs should be met.
It can be used by practitioners across children's services in England.
