Child and family support

This section has information on council services aimed at supporting children and families.

Follow the links below, or on the left for more information on the range of services that we provide.

Adoption and fostering

The information in this section will help you to decide if adoption or fostering would be right for you.

Babies

You can find advice and guidance for new parents, or parents-to-be in this section.

Children at risk

We are the first port of call for you if you are concerned about a child’s welfare and for families who may want or need help to look after their child.

If you think a child is in danger right now, call the police immediately on 999.

Looked after children

There are times when children aren't able to live with their families. In these situations, the children may be cared for by the Council. This is called being taken into care or looked after.

Missing children

Find out what to do if a child goes missing.  You can also find out more about the actions that the Police and Children's Service take in these circumstances.

Respite care

In some cases, respite care is available for families who may require a break from their caring responsibilities.

Other information in this section

We also have information on the Common Assessment Framework for social care professionals.
