Babies
Learning
A baby’s brain develops very quickly between birth and two years old. Your baby can understand far more than you might think and will benefit from any positive stimulation.
Talking tips
Your baby needs you to talk and to listen.
Talk and sing to your baby right from the start.
Make eye contact when you talk.
Tell your baby what you are doing throughout your day.
Listen to your baby and respond to their sounds.
Draw your baby’s attention to the sounds around you.
Enjoy activities together such as:
singing action songs and rhymes
making sounds, such as animal noises
sharing books
playing games
Local libraries hold
rhyme time and storytelling
sessions for parents, babies and toddlers.
Babies and books
Babies love looking at and sharing books. Reading to your baby, talking about the pictures in books, singing songs and rhymes will really help you bond with your child, and help your child develop language.
The Council's Bookstart scheme means that soon every baby and toddler in Greenwich will receive three wonderful FREE Bookstart packs.
