Health
There are many local services available to help support you and your baby.
You may find it helpful to be in contact with a number of these during the first years of your child’s life.
Midwife
Your midwife will support you through pregnancy and for the first couple of weeks of your baby’s life. They will keep an eye on you and your baby’s health.
GP
Your doctor will provide crucial ongoing support for the general health of your family and can refer you to specialist health services. You can find your local GP surgery using the search facility on the NHS Direct website in the Useful links menu on the right.

Health visitor
A health visitor is a specially trained nurse with experience in child health, health promotion and education. Every family with a child under five years is linked with a named local health visitor. You can see your health visitor in your home or at their base.
Health visitors can offer support and advice on:
the health of your baby and growing child
the impact of a new baby in your family
your physical and emotional well-being
caring for others.
