Breastfeeding

Breastfed babies are less likely to suffer from asthma and eczema, coughs and chest infections, and ear, kidney or bladder infections. They are also less likely to get diabetes or have weight problems as adults.

Greenwich Breastfeeding Strategy

Greenwich Breastfeeding Strategy is a partnership between the Council, Greenwich Teaching Primary Care Trust, Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the University of Greenwich.

To find out more about the strategy follow the link on the right.

Help groups

New mums sometimes need help to make breastfeeding easier.

If you would like someone to talk to, Sure Start is working with the Greenwich Breastfeeding team to set up breastfeeding and postnatal groups for local mums.

These groups are drop-ins, are very relaxed and run by local mums with a midwife, health visitor or nursery nurse. They offer a chance to discuss any problems that might stop you from breastfeeding, whether it is discomfort, or coping with feeding when you’re out shopping.

Pregnant woman are also welcome to come along and pick up tips.

Find out more about Sure Start and find your nearest group.

Weaning

The groups can help with weaning ideas when baby is six months old.
