Coping as a carer

People who are carers take on a great deal of responsibility. You can often feel that you are on your own when your life is taken up with looking after someone who is mentally or physically ill.

There are groups and organisations that offer emotional and practical support and advice about coping with caring. You may also be entitled to respite care.

Need a break?

If you look after an elderly, disabled or mentally ill adult, you may be eligible for respite care. See our respite care for adults pages for more information about applying for respite help.

If you look after a child with special needs, you may also be eligible for respite care assistance. See our respite care for children pages for information about who to contact.
