Youth Opportunities Fund

Got an idea for something that will make a real difference to other young people in your area?

Hundreds of things, from trips to theme parks to new recording studios, have been paid for by special grants that put, Greenwich’s 13-19 year olds, in charge. For the last two years, young people have been able to apply for the money from the Youth Opportunity and/or Capital Fund.

The money’s been given to Greenwich Council by the government, so that it can help its young people get more involved in making things happen.

Depending on what you want the money for you can apply to one or both funds.

Youth Opportunity Fund

The Youth Opportunity Fund is up to £5,000 – with it you can pay for activities like trips away, dance tutors or hiring filming equipment.

Youth Capital Fund

The Youth Capital Fund, has just gone up from £10,000 to £25,000. You can apply for this to pay for better facilities like a computer room, setting up recording studio or getting equipment for a kitchen.  

The money’s been spent on tons of things and it’s going to be around for another three years.

What could I do?

Here are some examples:

  • Days out in London to help young people understand the capital better.

  • Football equipment for an aspiring local team.

  • Ice Skating Trip for a local girls' project. 

  • A day go-karting to help build a bond between youth club members.

  • Tents and hiking equipment for trips away.

  • Photography training for a digital arts project.

  • Kite building workshop and flying lessons and a trip to a windy beach.

  • Hiring a climbing wall for a day at a youth club.

  • Making a video film about the experience of young refugees.

  • Days at health and leisure centre as a reward for group members.
      
  • Designing a website for a youth organisation.

  • Outdoor adventure weekend away to build team spirit.

  • A trip to Liverpool to visit the International Slavery Museum.

  • Cookery lessons to try out international foods.

  • Health and beauty workshops with a qualified beautician.

  • Youth conference looking at issues around health. 
Your application must meet one or more of the Every Child Matters outcomes.
