What happens to the people responsible
If you do not want us to contact the people responsible we will not usually do so.
However, harassment and abuse are criminal offences and are also breaches of the Council’s tenancy agreement.
We want to take action against people responsible where possible. Depending on the circumstances we may:
Interview them – jointly with a police officer, where appropriate
Warn them about action that can be taken against them if they carry on with the harassment
Apply for a court injunction to stop the harassment
Apply for a possession order to evict them (if they are council tenants)
There are separate procedures for dealing with offenders who are
children or teenagers
In most cases it is possible to stop the harassment without going to court, especially if we tackle it early on.
