Where to seek help
Help with housing
There are several options in the short term and long term, and leaving home for a short time need not mean that you have to give up your housing rights.
Don’t make any major decisions, such as giving up your tenancy, until you have had clear up-to-date advice. Greenwich Borough Council’s
Housing Department
has a policy on domestic violence and will be able to give you advice on what to do.
Women's refuges
can provide somewhere safe to stay for you and your children.
Housing support
For emergency advice, or to find out what your options are, contact Greenwich Borough Council’s
Homeless Services
. The help offered will depend on your circumstances and your immigration status.
Tel: 020 8921 2863
Outside normal working hours, tel: 020 8854 8888
Greenwich Housing Rights offers independent advice and support. Tel: 020 8854 8848.
The
Shelter Housing
advice line offers emergency housing help 8am - midnight every day. Tel: 0808 800 4444 (including minicom).
Council tenants
If you are a council tenant, contact your
estate office
for extra security on your home (if you don't live with your abuser). Let them know if you have had to leave home, or you can ask for an emergency transfer.
Private tenants or owner-occupiers
If you are a private tenant or an owner-occupier, contact the
Housing Aid Centre
. Tel: 020 8921 2618.
Further information can be found in the
'Tackling Domestic Violence Resource Pack'
