If you are getting to retirement age and wondering whether you should carry on working or retire, there are a few factors you might want to consider before you make a decision.
Choosing retirement
Many people spend their whole lives working towards retirement. You will have more time to spend with your family and friends. You can also concentrate on your hobbies or interests.
There can be a downside to retirement - your income will probably drop and you may find it difficult suddenly having so much time to fill. If you don't keep active, you may find yourself feeling bored or depressed.
If you wanted to, you could carry on working full time or become a volunteer.
Continuing to work
From 1 October 2006, employers must consider a request from anyone who wishes to carry on working after retirement age.

Even if you stop working full time, you might want to find a job with fewer hours or less responsibility. There are organistaions that can give you help and advice.
