Healthy living in later life

As you get older, improving your diet and nutrition can improve your health and reduce the risk of disease in later life.

If you would like to know more, the Age Concern Healthy Living project runs workshops, healthy living programmes and much more to promote healthy ageing for older people in Greenwich. There are a number of projects available:

Living healthier

Age Concern's philosophy is not just about living longer, but living healthier, so that people can maintain a better quality of life as they enter their senior years.

Areas of work and examples of projects:

  • Nutrition workshops at day centres, lunch clubs, supported housing units and community-based events.
  • Healthy living programmes at neighbourhood estate offices, including themed health days to raise awareness of specific health concerns, e.g. heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis.
  • Monthly health days at the Sikh Temple, Mason’s Hill, Woolwich.
  • Home visits and nutritional advice to vulnerable, housebound clients.
  • Workshops with carers’ groups and women’s groups.
  • Staff and volunteer education and nutrition awareness.
  • Nutritional analysis of lunch club menus.
  • Healthy eating demonstrations at Age Concern’s annual ‘Home and Away’ holidays (a successful venture increased to three holidays this year).
