Local food projects and activities

Greenwich Community Food Initiative (GCFI) can help you get access to healthy, affordable food — a vital part of a healthy diet — through a range of projects and activities.

Fruit and vegetable stalls

Buy good quality produce at affordable prices at our weekly fruit and vegetable stalls.

Find out what days and times the fruit and vegetable stalls are open.

Food preparation

We also offer courses in cookery and food growing.

Find out about cookery courses in our activities and clubs section.

Get involved

If you would like to get involved, there are plenty of opportunities for volunteering your services.

Call the GCFI on 020 8856 1578 or 020 8269 4884 for further information.

Community approach

GCFI use a community development approach where we work with and support local residents to plan and implement projects they want.

What about an allotment?

Grown your own fresh produce on your own patch of land. See allotments for details.

Areas of work and examples of projects

  • Cookery courses & clubs, fruit and vegetable co-ops, food growing & allotments,
    commercial catering & community cafes.
  • Greenwich Community Food Cooperative (GCFC) runs stalls throughout the week at several locations.
  • The Asian Cookery Clubs are very popular and we are in the process of extending this project to other groups in the community.
  • GCFI have also been closely involved with the School meals project initiated by Jamie Oliver and is working in close partnership with Greenwich Direct Services to support them in long-term sustainable change to the Greenwich school meals service.
  • The work of GCFI has been recognised outside Greenwich, and a representative has been asked to sit on the new Mayoral body, London Food and the steering group of London Food Link.
