Emergency Planning and Resilience Unit

The Council has an Emergency Planning and Resilience Unit based in Woolwich. Staff are trained to cope with any major incident that may affect the safety of people in the borough.

What does the unit do?

The role of the Emergency Planning and Resilience Unit is to:

  • Prevent or prepare for emergencies and to reduce or control the effects of emergencies.
  • To warn, inform and advise if an emergency takes place and make the public aware of arrangements that are being made.
  • Co-operate and share information with other response organisations.
  • Promote business continuity management in the local business community - see Planning for emergencies in our Business section
Staff take part in testing plans and recovery exercises along with the emergency services and other organisations.

Being prepared

The Council's emergency plans set out the information and procedures needed to ensure an effective, flexible and timely response to an emergency.

This will reduce the distress and disruption caused by any major incident.

Read the Council's Risk Management Policy and Strategy.

The Community Risk Register lists potential hazards which could affect the borough. Read more about the South East London Community Risk Register.
