The kitchen is the most dangerous place in your home, so what can you do to make it safer?
Keep electrical leads away from the cooker.
Don't hang tea towels over the cooker.
Don't put anything metallic in the microwave.
Keep electrical leads away from water.
Keep the toaster away from curtains.
Make sure the kitchen is well ventilated.
Keep the oven and hob clean.
Cooking safety
The following tips will help you stay safe while cooking:
If you are called away, take pans off the heat.
Turn pan handles so they don't stick out and are not over another hot ring.
Don't get distracted while cooking.
Don't put oven gloves or tea towels on the cooker.
Keep the oven door shut.
Never fill a chip pan more than a third full of oil.
A third of deep frying accidents occur between 10pm and 4am. If you're hungry after the pub - go to the chippy!
