If the media ask to view CCTV pictures, the data controller will make sure all relevant legislation is being followed, eg Data Protection Act 1998, Human Rights Act 1998 before granting the request.

We will also check that the request would pass a test of "disclosure in the public interest".

If the material will be used for:

  • crime prevention - it must be signed off by a police inspector (or an officer of higher rank).
  • public well-being, health or safety - a senior officer from Greenwich Council must agree in writing.
