Looking out for you

Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) has become one of the most powerful ways to combat urban crime. The cameras act as a deterrant and the footage is often used as evidence in court.

Who can watch CCTV?

However, with about 500,000 cameras in operation across the country, the UK population is the most-watched in the world. If you live and work in the city you can be filmed by 300 cameras a day.

To make sure this security tool does not infringe on people's liberty, there are very strict rules about who can view CCTV footage.

See links on left for details of CCTV in Greenwich, and how to make a request to view CCTV recordings.
