Enjoying and achieving
We asked young people at the Y factor conference, what does enjoying and achieving in school and in life mean to you?
Most of the younger children who gave views on this topic felt that what had been provided had been good. However some felt education and exclusion policies need reviewing.
School being made 'more fun' was a popular suggestion, with interactive learning, and more workshops being suggested as ways to do this.
Practical support in schools with lifestyle choices was also suggested, with youth workers in schools an option many young people felt would help their learning. Young people also felt they’d like to have a say in designing their uniform.
What was discussed?
Young people were asked about the activities they enjoy. Answers included:
dance
socialising
sport
music
Changes
If young people took over the provision of services they would like to have:
youth clubs in schools
more lesson options at school along with practical support
a say in the design of the uniform
more trips – mixing different areas and schools
a better variety of school dinners.
Key suggestion
The key suggestion that came out of the discussion was:
integration - schools networking to break down gang culture.
