Transferring grave ownership
If you own a grave, you can either pass it on to someone else, or if it is unused, give it up completely.
In cases where the owner of the grave has died, there are rules about how the grave can be transferred to a new owner.
Ownership of the grave must be transferred if the owner has died, and any of the following apply:
A burial is to take place in the grave
A new memorial is to be erected
A new memorial is replacing an existing memorial
A new memorial is being added to an existing memorial
There is a fee of £58 for the transfer of grave ownership.
The exact procedure for arranging to transfer grave ownership will depend on the circumstances – it is best to contact
Cemetery Services
to discuss your individual requirements.
