Video, DVD and computer games

 
Videos and DVDs are classified according the the age range they are considered suitable for. Computer games also have age restrictions.

It is illegal to sell these products to a person who is under the age specified in the classification code.

Video and DVD classification codes
UUniversal - suitable for all
UcUniversal - particulary suitable for young children
PGParental Guidance - general viewing, but some scenes may be unsuitable for young children
12Suitable only for persons of 12 years and over
15Suitable only for persons of 15 years and over
18Suitable only for persons of 18 years and over
R18Restricted - to be supplied only in licensed sex shops to persons of 18 years or over

  • If you are not sure of the customers age, ask for proof.
  • If no proof of age can be produced, refuse the sale.
  • It is illegal to supply an R18 recording from any premises other than a licensed sex shop.
  • It is illegal to supply a recording that doesn't have the classification code displayed on its case.

Remember - you commit an offence if:

  • you supply a classified product to someone who is underage
  • you supply a classified product that is not correctly labelled
  • you supply an R18 recording unless you run a licensed sex shop.
