How to register to sell fireworks

 

1. Read the guidance notes

This guidance sets out the criteria that the law requires you to follow. You can download the Guide to the storage and sale of fireworks or contact us, and we will send it to you.

2. Complete the application form

You can download the application form or contact us, and we will send it to you.

3. Send the completed form to us

See contact us for the postal address. You also need to send with the form a cheque (payable to 'Greenwich Council’) for the appropriate application fee:

  • Renewal of registration: £43
  • New registration: £86
  • Two year registration: £129
  • Two year renewal: £81
  • All year registration: £500 (this is in addition to the registration or renewal fee)

4. What happens next?

  • If we are satisfied with your application, we will register you.
  • We will not normally visit your premises before granting a registration.
  • This registration runs until 30 September of each year, so you need to re-register every year if you want to continue to sell fireworks (unless you have a two year registration).

Enforcement

Greenwich Trading Standards carry out rigorous enforcement of the law in the three week period prior to 5th November. 

This includes carrying out under age test purchases, as it is an offence to sell a firework to anyone apparently under the age of 18 years.
