How to obtain a licence to sell fireworks

1. Read the guidance notes

This guidance sets out the criteria that the law requires you to follow. You can download the Guide to the storage and sale of fireworks or contact us, and we will send it to you.

2. Complete the application form

You can download the application form or contact us, and we will send it to you.

3. Send the completed form to us

See contact us for the postal address. You also need to send with the form a cheque (payable to ‘Greenwich Council’) for the appropriate application fee:

  • Licence renewal: £79
  • New licence: £144
  • Two year new licence: £216
  • Two year renewal: £131
  • All year registration: £500 (this is in addition to the licence or renewal fee)

4. What happens next?

  1. We will send an officer to visit your premises. This officer will check that your premises are safe to store fireworks.
  2. If we are satisfied that your site is safe, we will issue the licence.

Enforcement

Greenwich Trading Standards carry out rigorous enforcement of the law in the three week period prior to 5 November.

This includes carrying out under age test purchases, as it is an offence to sell a firework to anyone apparently under the age of 18 years.
