Licence to perform

If a school-age child is going to take part in a professional performance - ie not simply playing Mary in the end of term nativity play - they will probably need a stage licence. These pages explain when a licence is necessary and how to apply for one.

Who applies for it?

The company producing the performance should apply for any stage licences they need. However, there is a section on the form that needs to be filled in by the parent.

The legislation

Before we issue a licence, we must be satisfied with arrangements for:

  • the supervision and protection of the child, and
  • the education of the child (ie if they miss school, get a tutor etc)
The legislation which demands this licensing is:
The Children and Young Persons Acts 1933 and 1963 The Children (performances) Regulations 1968.
