How to apply for a Temporary Event Notice

Please follow these steps.

1. Read the guidance

See Guidance - Temporary Events Notice.

2. Complete the Temporary Event Notice

You can download this from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport website, or contact us and we will post one to you.

3. Submit your Temporary Events Notice

  • Send two copies of your Temporary Event Notice to us together with a cheque for £21 made payable to Greenwich Council.
You must ensure we RECEIVE your application at least ten working days before your event.  This is a legal deadline and we cannot accept applications received outside of this time limit under any circumstances.
  • Send a copy of your Temporary Event Notice to the Police at the address given in the Guidance notes page

What happens next?

If the police do not object, and we consider that your application is in order, we will stamp one copy of your Temporary Event Notice and return it to you.

The Premises User must keep a copy of the Notice in their possession at the event and produce it on request of a Police officer or authorised Council officer.

If the Police do object ...

We will hold a public hearing in front of our Licensing Sub Committee to determine your application (unless all parties can agree a hearing is unnecessary).

The Committee will listen to evidence from both sides before deciding whether the event can go ahead.  However, Government guidance requires that we refuse permission for the event in these circumstances unless there are exceptional reasons not to.

If your application exceeds the limits for Temporary Event Notices (see Temporary Event Notices Licensing Act 2003 in our Guidance notes page) we will serve a Counter Notice on you.  In these circumstances your event cannot go ahead.
