Food premises registration
The law requires food businesses to register their premises with the local authority. This should be done at least 28 days prior to opening.
Registration is a very simple process and the registration form should only take a few minutes to complete. There is no charge to register premises and registration does not need to be renewed periodically. Local authorities cannot refuse to register premises.
Why do premises have to be registered?
Registration is to provide enforcement authorities with information about the food premises in their area so they can plan their inspections effectively.
Changes to registered premises
The only changes to a registered premises which must be notified to the local authority are:
a change of food business operator
a change in the nature of the business
closure of the business.
