CIEH Foundation Certificate in Food Hygiene

Greenwich Council offers courses in food hygiene. These lead to the CIEH Foundation Certificate in Food Hygiene (formerly the Basic Food Hygiene Certificate), issued by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.

How to apply

Please telephone the Environmental Health Department on 020 8921 8186 to enquire about dates and availability of places/courses.

Alternatively, you can download the application form and information leaflet.

Who should attend the course?

It is a legal requirement that food handlers should be suitably trained in food hygiene, meaning that everyone who manages and handles food in catering, retail and manufacturing businesses should have sufficient knowledge to enable them to do their job safely.

This includes:

  • factories
  • staff restaurants
  • school kitchens
  • nursing and care homes
  • public houses
  • restaurants
  • cafés
  • takeaways
  • food shops
  • home catering businesses (especially for fetes, banquets and outdoor functions)
This course can help food businesses meet their legal obligations and leads to a nationally recognised qualification.
