Filming in London
The film industry is of great economic benefit to the local and national economy.
London is home to 80% of the UK's film and television industry. Current estimates show that the industry employs up to 200,000 people in London and contributes 7% (or £6 billion) to the city's economy.
Film companies can generate a great deal of money for the local area. They make use of local businesses, such as taxi firms, hotels and restaurants, and will usually pay a fee to hire premises. They can also increase employment opportunities for local people.
Other benefits
Filming also raises the profile of the borough. This helps attract both tourists and new businesses to Greenwich.
Code of practice
The Greenwich Film Unit is part of the London Filming Partnership and abides by its Code of Practice.
