Approved list and register of suppliers

We now use the government sponsored Constructionline database as the source for selecting contractors and consultants to tender for all Council properties repair, maintenance and construction projects.

Please read the draft A Guide for Contractors and Council Officers pdf 69kb about constructionline.

This means that we no longer maintain our own approved list of contractors for that work.

Selection standard

BiP Solutions has developed an assessment standard called Select Accredit. To acheive Select Accredit status, suppliers are fully assessed by a third party for full accreditation.

What is Select Accredit?

Constructionline/Select Accredit is designed to meet the needs of the public sector and to support local authorities in delivering the National Procurement Strategy. It is the largest supplier accreditation service in the marketplace and has clients from across all public service sectors, as well as housing associations and universities. The service is structured to support the registration of small medium enterprises and new businesses.

Select Accredit is the only cross public sector accreditation service to be delivered to the standards set by the Department of Trade and Industry’s Constructionline accreditation service.

Where are the supplier databases?

Access to Select Accredit and Constructionline supplier databases is through the usual login process on the Constructionline website. You will find the Constructionline website listed in the Useful links menu to the right.

Please contact Constructionline direct on 0870 607 1602 if you need help using the Constructonline databases.

Supplier accreditation

Suppliers expected to receive orders of more than £10,000 should be accredited to a standard recognised by the Council. The Council is committed to developing and maintaining a high quality supplier base, and encourages suppliers to achieve accredited status through Constructionline/Select Accredit.

Please note you will also need to be assessed by the Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (pdf 31kb).

You will need a copy of Adobe Reader to download this document. See the Useful links on the right to download a free copy of the reader.

Do I have to register in an accredited database?

Legislation prevents the Council from insisting that a supplier is registered in an accredited database as a prerequisite for consideration for work opportunities. However, the Constructionline/Select Accredit database offers potential advantages for suppliers seeking to extend their work in the public sector.

Sometimes, there may be reasons for not using an accredited supplier. These reasons will be considered on individual merit. Please see our Contract standing orders (pdf 80kb) for more information.
