O'Keefe Construction has completed the concrete foundations of the London 2012 Main Press Centre (MPC). The Greenwich-based company, which will be 40 years old in 2010, has had a 70-strong team on the Olympic Park site since March 2009.

The broadcast centre's foundations are also built by O'Keefe Construction.

Maximising opportunities

Councillor Chris Roberts, Leader of Greenwich Council, said, "We are delighted that a Greenwich-based company is playing such a key role in the development of an Olympic venue. We are working closely with both local businesses and our communities to maximise the business and employment opportunities that the Games offer.

"Already 450 local people have found work thanks to the Games and over 1,200 Greenwich residents have benefited from training programmes. More than 14 Greenwich-based companies or organisations have supplied the Olympic Delivery Authority directly with many more, such as O’Keefe, winning work through the Olympic Park supply chains.

"In addition, we have developed Destination Greenwich to try to create wider opportunities and attract inward investment to the borough. Our dedicated project aims to support existing businesses and welcome new businesses looking to locate in an Olympic area."

Flexible design

The media and broadcast centres combine an innovative mixture of permanent and temporary elements for the Games and have been designed to be as flexible as possible to accommodate a range of potential legacy uses.

Legacy and long term development

The Olympic Park Legacy Company is responsible for the long term development planning, management and maintenance of the Olympic Park Site, including the Main Press Centre and the International Broadcast Centre, after the 2012 Games.

Andrew Altman, Chief Executive of the Olympic Park Legacy Company, said, "The media centre will become a major employment site after the Games.

"The buildings have been designed with flexibility in mind and can meet the needs of tenants by being split into different configurations depending on the requirements of market demand."
