Olympic opportunities for local businesses

A recent London 2012 Business Opportunity event gave local businesses the chance to register and take advantage of the opportunities arising from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games.

Between now and 2012, an estimated 75,000 contracts will be allocated by the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) and London Organising Committee (LOCOG).

Register your business

To benefit from these opportunities, businesses have to be registered with CompeteFor - whether they are a sole trader, small to medium business, or a large multi-national organisation.

CompeteFor was developed through a partnership of the London Development Agency, the London Business Network and the Olympic Authorities to allow businesses to compete for contract opportunities linked to London 2012.

CompeteFor acts as a brokerage service matching buyers with potential suppliers throughout the London 2012 supply chain.

In Greenwich more than 150 companies have already had help in preparing to bid for Olympic-related work, and more than £4m of business has been won by local firms.

They include a local sign company, a printing firm, a company that makes blinds, and a catering firm.

Register your business on the CompeteFor website.

Make the most of opportunities

Speaking at the Business Opportunity event, Cllr Denise Hyland, Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills, said: "Greenwich is the only South London borough to host the Olympics.

"Businesses in Greenwich have the opportunity to reap the benefits of the millions of pounds worth of business opportunities coming into the London in the run up to the Games.

"Greenwich Council and its partners are working hard to help businesses make the most of these opportunities."
