Overpaid tax credits
If HM Revenue and Customs paid you too much in tax credits last year, this will be recovered by reducing your current payments.
Can I appeal?
There is no right of appeal against these decisions but, in some circumstances, HM Revenue and Customs may decide not to recover the overpayment or may write off all or part of it.
You can appeal if you disagree with the amount of tax credit HM Revenue and Customs decided you could get.
Get advice
If you have been overpaid tax credits, get advice if, for example:
the overpayment was not your fault - you may not have to pay it back, or
you are finding it hard to manage because your tax credit award has been reduced.
