Work out your Local Housing Allowance

You can use the information on this page to work out your maximum Local Housing Allowance.

The Local Housing Allowance (LHA) is a maximum figure used to work out your Housing Benefit. You will not necessarily receive this amount.

The amount of weekly LHA that you get will depend on the level of your income and savings.
Your benefit may be further reduced if you have other adults who live with you.

Calculate your LHA online

Visit the LHA Direct website to calculate your maximum LHA.

You can also use the information below to work out your maximum LHA.

Three steps to work out your LHA

There are three steps to follow to work out your maximum LHA.

Step one: What area do you live in?

For the purposes of calculating the Local Housing Allowance, the Borough of Greenwich is divided into two main postcode areas: inner and outer Greenwich.

Find your postcode in the table below to find out which area you live in. For some postcodes, you may need to use the LHA direct website or call us so that we can tell you whether you live in inner or outer Greenwich.

Other people living with you

If you have other adults or children who live with you (who are not joint tenants or your landlord):

  • Allow 1 additional bedroom for each additional single adult or couple
  • Allow 1 additional bedroom for any two children under 10
  • Allow 1 additional bedroom for any two children of the same sex aged under 16
  • Allow one additional bedroom for any child aged 16 or over.

Example

A couple with three children: a boy aged 9 and two girls aged 8 and 16.  An elderly relative also lives with them.

The couple will get one bedroom.
The boy aged 9 and the girl aged 8 will share a bedroom.
The girl aged 16 gets her own bedroom.
