How to claim
Types of identification
Only the following forms of identification are acceptable:
benefit payment book
paid utility bill from the most recent quarter
bank statement dated less than four weeks prior to claim
building society book
wage slips from current employer
National Insurance number card
medical card
credit cards
driving licence
birth certificate / marriage certificate / civil partnership certificate / divorce papers
full and valid passport
Home Office Standard Assessment letter
EA/EEC identity card
UK residence permit
letter from: solicitor / social worker / probation officer
certificate of employment in UK forces / or the Merchant Navy.
Original documentation
Please remember that we must see original documentation. There are two ways to submit your documents:
Bring them to the
Advice & Benefits reception
in Riverside House or Eltham Centre, or one of our
Neighbourhood Housing Offices
, and we'll photocopy and verify the documentation and return the originals to you
Post them to us using registered delivery, which will guarantee we receive it. All original documents sent through the post will be returned by recorded delivery within two days. Make sure you write your full name, address (where the claim is made) and Housing Benefit reference number (if you know it) on all your correspondence.
