Statutory Maternity Pay

 
If you are expecting a baby and are in work, you may be able to claim Statutory Maternity Pay.  This is paid by your employer for up 39 weeks.

Statutory Maternity Pay is worth up to:

  • 90% of your earnings for the first six weeks
  • £117.18 for the remaining 33 weeks. 
Some employers also have their own schemes and will pay more money on top of this. Your employer will be able to give you more information.

How do I claim?

Speak to your employer. Tell them that you are pregnant and give at least four weeks notice of the date you plan to stop work.

You will need to provide evidence of when your baby is due. To do this, ask your doctor or midwife for a MATB1 form.

What if I am self employed or am not entitled?

Even if you cannot get Statutory Maternity Pay, you may be able to get Maternity Allowance.
