Enjoy free entertainment and witness the historic handing over of the Olympic flag at The O2 with your family, other borough residents and councillors. Then join the rest of the nation for a merry sing-along.

  • Date: 24 August 2008
  • Time: 1pm to 4pm
  • Venue: The O2

Day of entertainment

Large screens will televise the event, at the close of the Beijing Olympic Games, when the Mayor of London will receive the Olympic flag from the Mayor of Beijing.

At the end of the ceremony, the world's focus will shift to London, as we prepare to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Sing the Nation

At the event, you can join the rest of the nation in a mass sing-along. This is part of the Sing the Nation programme, a festival to get us all singing.

Host borough flag

The Mayor of Greenwich, Councillor Steve Offord and Councillor John Fahy, Cabinet Member for Culture and Olympics, will also unfold the host borough Olympic flag.

In 2012 Greenwich will be hosting contests for 12 Olympic and Paralympic sports at The O2, Greenwich Park and the Royal Artillery Barracks.

Hosting the 2012 Games is expected to bring benefits to residents and businesses in the borough and boost tourism.
