What is the Cultural Olympiad?

The four-year Cultural Olympiad is an inspirational programme of events that will run alongside preparations for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It aims to push cultural projects to their limits and will be a chance for London to demonstrate its artistic talents.

In Greenwich, the Council is working in partnership with various arts organisations to encourage the whole community to take part and enjoy a programme of exciting creative activities to mark London’s hosting of the 2012 Games.

Sporting and cultural legacy

Cllr John Fahy, Cabinet Member for Culture and the Olympics, said: "The London 2012 Games are not just about sport. They are also about all the different cultures coming together on this fantastic world stage.

"Just as the Olympics inspire our young people to get involved in sport, the four-year Cultural Olympiad will inspire them to celebrate the diversity of all the nations involved..

"The events organised to mark the launch of the Cultural Olympiad are the beginning of a four-programme that will encourage the whole community to get involved with the Games, working together for a lasting sporting and cultural legacy."
