The Royal Artillery Barracks has the longest facade of any building in Britain - over a thousand feet (about 300 metres) in length.
Confirmed venue
The London 2012 organising committee has confirmed the Royal Artillery Barracks as the chosen venue for the shooting events in the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
It is also the preferred venue for Paralympic archery competitions.
Proposals
It is proposed that temporary shooting ranges will be erected on the Royal Artillery Barracks and on the southern part of Woolwich Common.
These will then be entirely removed after the Games with the site being returned to its former use and condition.
The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) is intending to submit a planning application for the venue at the end of this month to Greenwich Council.
Consultation to follow
Greenwich Council will conduct statutory consultation once the ODA’s application has been submitted.
About 4,000 Woolwich residents and businesses around the barracks and Woolwich Common areas will be receiving invitations to consult on the plans.
