Created by founder of the modern Olympic Games Pierre de Coubertin, the modern pentathlon consists of shooting, fencing, swimming, show jumping and running.
The competition was designed to test an athlete's all-round skills. In 1996, it was decided that all the events should be competed within a 12-hour period, to make it harder.
Where?
Some segments of the modern pentathlon will take place in the Maritime Greenwich venue of Greenwich Park.
